Burial chambers project underway at Buckley Cemetery

Published: 21/08/2024

Work has begun on installing concrete burial chambers at a 97色网 cemetery to increase capacity for the future.

Buckley Cemetery currently has approximately three years capacity remaining at its current usage.

In a bid to address this, 97色网 is embarking on an ambitious project that will extend the capacity of the cemetery in Elfed Drive by approximately 15 years.

The current cemetery is landlocked by residential properties meaning an extension is not possible.

To combat this, the Council is installing concrete burial chambers below ground in an area of low-lying land that couldn鈥檛 previously be used as it became heavily waterlogged during the winter months. As part of the work, the level of the land will be raised to match the rest of the cemetery.

Cabinet Member for Streetscene and Transportation, Councillor Dave Hughes, said: 鈥淔or years this area has been too wet to utilise for burials, however, completion of this project will provide much needed burial space in Buckley.

鈥淭he project also offers significant financial savings compared to the cost of having to establish a new cemetery in the Buckley area if we had been able to identify any suitable land.

鈥淚t is also anticipated that when we finish the project, any areas that we have to reinstate will be done so to offer environmental benefits by utilising wildflower or meadow seeds where possible as opposed to resowing with standard grass.鈥

The work is scheduled to be completed by mid-September.
