Work to start on Holywell safer route

Published: 31/01/2024

Work is set to begin next week to create a new 鈥榮afer route鈥 in Holywell.

97色网鈥檚 Streetscene and Transportation team is pleased to confirm that 拢487k funding has been secured to carry out a new safer route in the town.

Thanks to funding from Welsh Government, the footpath along the A5026 Holway Road and Whitford Street will be widened, making it safer and more accessible for pupils, parents and the wider community.

It follows a 4-week public consultation in September 2023 where residents were invited to attend a drop-in information event and encouraged to have their say on which routes they鈥檇 like to see improved.

Work, which is being carried out by EE Civils, will be starting on Monday, 5 February and is expected to take 10 weeks. To facilitate the works, a temporary traffic light system will be in place on A5026 Holway Road.

Access to individual properties and businesses will be maintained, although there may be short delays at times.

97色网鈥檚 Cabinet Member for Streetscene and the regional transport strategy, Councillor Dave Hughes said: 鈥淭he feedback and engagement from the community during the consultation was brilliant so we are delighted to be able to implement a new safer routes scheme in Hollywell.

鈥淏y creating a safe environment for pedestrians, we can encourage even more people to leave the car at home and opt to travel more actively. This in turn will lead to cleaner air and safer streets.

鈥淲e apologise for any delays or disruption that may be caused during the works.鈥
